WE WERE NEVER ONE

An embodied encyclopedia of the now.

'Living in a time of planetary catastrophe begins with a practice at once humble and difficult: noticing the world around us.'

Arts of living on a damaged planet

"We Were Never One" is the new album of The Star Pillow, whose last release dates back to 2019 with "Music For Sad Headbangers" (Midira Records). This last album is the original soundtrack composed for the homonymous contemporary dance performance by the austrian choreographer Karin Pauer with whom Paolo Monti has already collaborated for the performance "this is where we draw the line“ which premiered at the Donau Festival/ Krems 2019 and was performed in Romania, Austria and Italy.

The tracks follow a precise and cinematic script of the piece in which four performers, one musician and a visual artist create a cycle of metamorphoses that invites the audience to become aware of the interconnectedness of our species with the world around us. In “We Were Never One“ this realization turns into text, embodied thoughts, hybrid objects, haunted landscapes and sounds of extinction.

The visual artist Aldo Giannotti took care of the cover art and the album design.

We Were Never One was released on April 8th 2022, the day of the performance's premiere, (follow-up shows on 9th/12th/13th/14th April) at Brut, Wien.
